OUR HISTORY

AND STAGES
Four decades of music
open to the Atlantic.
THE CANARY ISLANDS,
AN ARCHIPELAGO OF ENCOUNTERS
Situated off the African coast, the Canary Islands have been a meeting point between Europe, Africa and the Americas for centuries.
Journeys, migration and maritime routes have woven an open culture shaped by many influences.
Indigenous memories, European heritage, African roots and traces of the Americas coexist on these islands.
Far from being an exception, this blend is part of their identity, expressed through their people, landscapes and music.

A CREATIVE JOURNEY FROM THE CANARY ISLANDS
OLGA CERPA & MESTISAY
Olga Cerpa & Mestisay began in 1980, driven by Manuel González’s wish to create music rooted in the Canary Islands and open to the world. Over more than four decades, the group has established itself as a leading name in Canarian popular music and one of its foremost voices.
Drawing on island traditions, the group connects with sounds from Africa, Latin America and the Portuguese-speaking world in an ongoing dialogue between cultures. Rather than imitation, this fusion is about sharing, listening and creating with respect, embracing diversity as a natural way of being and coming together.

“
MUSIC THAT SEES
THE ATLANTIC
AS A MEETING PLACE
”
Throughout their career, Olga Cerpa & Mestisay have released more than twenty recordings, created a range of musical and stage productions, and performed at venues across Europe, Africa and the Americas.
Olga Cerpa’s voice, Manuel González’s artistic direction and collaborations with music and people from different places have shaped a distinctive project recognised with two Latin Grammy nominations.
